By Ngozi Onyeakusi — The National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) has urged the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN) to work with the commission and other arms of the industry in the area of manpower development.
Other arms of insurance industry includes: The Nigeria Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB), the Nigeria Insurers Association (NIA), Institute of Lost Adjusters of Nigeria (ILAN) and Professional Insurance Ladies Association (PILA).
The Acting Commissioner for Insurance, Sunday Thomas gave the admonition while marking a remark at the CIIN 60TH anniversary gala night held in Lagos.
Thomas commended the institute on its 60th anniversary which according to him was marked with a lot achievements.
Earlier in his remarks also, the Doyen of the Insurance industry, Olola Olanode Ogunleye while receiving award as the doyen of industry commended the institute for recording monumental achievement of the college of insurance.
Though he lamented that in Nigeria bank’s own insurance against what is obtainable in other jurisdictions, but urged the institute to work towards bringing the sector back to its original position.
Ogunleye called on the operators to continue to develop themselves even as he enjoined them not to concentrate on only their existing products but insure business that could speak the language that those who were yet to embrace insurance would understand.
In his welcome address, the President of the governing council. CIIN, Eddie Efekoha stated that the institute has so far produced 3000 associates and 200 fellows.
He assured the institutes commitment to manpower development in the sector. ” We will continue to encourage and train our youths into the profession.
