By Ngozi Onyeakusi — Born out of the desire to eradicate totally fake insurance certificates from the nation’s insurance industry, the Nigeria Insurers Association (NIA) has launched an awareness campaign with a slogan, ‘Wetin U Carry?
This initiative will further enhance the effectiveness of the USSD Code*565*11# launched by the association, January this year.
Speaking during a media launch of the campaign  Monday  in Lagos, the Director General of the NIA, Mrs. Yetunde Ilori, stated that the rationale behind the initiative was to remind motorists the importance of regular checking to know the status of the insurance cover of their vehicles.
The campaign with it’s pilot phase starting in Lagos from October 2, 2019, will be driven through the media, billboards which be mounted strategically in Lagos Island and Ikeja.
She noted that 33 people will be kitted for the exercise, to move from different locations within the state, interacting  with people in a friendly manner, educating them on the need to procure genuine insurance.
“What we are looking at in this campaign is that we have a slogan “Wetin U Carry?” This slogan is what we want to be in the lip of everybody so that by the time you see a vehicle, the next thing you say is “wetin you carry?
“Not in terms of expecting something from you, but to say, are you carrying the genuine insurance cover, or you are having fake?
Speaking further, Ilori assured that shortly into the campaign, the association will launch a unified platform, where people could purchase insurance online as well as lodge complaints if any.
She equally assured that the insurance companies that sell motor insurance will be uploaded into the platform.
“This is to enable people know where they can buy genuine insurance because if people know where to buy genuine insurance, they will not be patronizing those that sell fake.
The platform is going to go beyond buying insurance alone, it will also provide opportunity for people to lodge their complaints”, she said.
