Practicing insurance brokers in the country, under the aegis of the Nigeria Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB) have called for speedy implementation of the 2016 national budget. This, council believe would assist in bringing succor to Nigeria’s problems.
Making the plea while delivering a speech at the NCRIB April Edition of the Members’ Evening held in Lagos, the President of the council, Mr. Kayode Okunoren regretted the delay in the budget implementation.
“It is disheartening that up till now, at the expiration of the fourth month of the year, government has not started the implementation of the budget,” he said.
Lamenting the challenges presently confronting the country occasioned by drop in the price of crude oil in the international market, issues surrounding the exchange rate, corruption among others, Okunoren called on Nigerians to be patient.
“Obviously, this is not the best of times for many Nigerians in view of the economic recession being experienced today. Obviously, our economy is presently bedeviled by challenges such as unfavourable exchange rate of the naira against the US Dollars; spiraling cost of goods and services that has constituted a hole in the pockets of Nigerians. The rock bottom prices of our crude oil in the international market coupled with the gale of corruption manifesting in the mismanagement of the nation’s resources has worsened the plight of the country.
It is definitely natural that a time like this would ordinarily task the patience of the citizens just as we are already seeing at the moment,” he said.
Okunoren debunked the rumor that it was only 300 brokers that had satisfied the renewal requirements as at the date of the first publication by the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM), even as he assured that 314 brokers satisfactorily met the requirement.
